Fisherman Huts

A must for all of you that want to try something unique when visiting Whitstable.

The huts, formerly used for storing cockle farmers’ clutter, are in an enclave off the narrow alley that runs parallel to the sea wall. All huts offer superb sea-views (except huts 7 & 11). Guests collect keys from the Hotel Continental, a 10-minute walk away. There are eleven huts, nine of them face out to sea and all have a private parking space.

The Anderson Shed, a converted boat builders shed has been refurbished into family accommodation and offers luxury accommodation for 5 persons (maximum of 4 adults). The shed has one twin / king bedroom and one double bedroom on the ground floor and a fully equipped kitchen and sea facing lounge with single sofa-bed on the first floor.

The huts are metres from the beach and offer views over the neat ranks of yachts wrapped in kagouls of blue sheeting, around the bay to the Isle of Sheppey, and across the water to the stalking remains of World War II sea forts, still waiting for an invasion that has never come. Outside, the wind makes clattering chimes of the masts, and the Turner-esque sunsets are reflected in pools of water on the mud flats.

The huts are very popular with visitors, especially through the summer and holiday periods. It is wise therefore to book your stay as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

We have recently opened a new Fisherman's Hut (A converted Cockle Farmers Shed) and during 2012 all Fisherman's Huts are being refurbished. This will mean the layouts and numbers may have changed, so please check with reception on booking.

The Anderson Shed is being completely refurbished in January 2013 and the layout will change to what is currently advertised. Please ask staff for more details.
